仏教の祖・お釈迦さまの伝説の生誕シーン
誕生佛は、仏教の祖・お釈迦さまの誕生のお姿をあらわした仏さまです。
『天上天下唯我独尊（てんじょうてんげゆいがどくそん）』
”この世のすべての命は、唯一無二で、等しく尊い存在である”
お釈迦さまは生まれてすぐ７歩あゆまれ、右手で天を左手で地を指さし、お言葉をあらわされたと伝えられています。
天地はこれを喜び、甘露の雨を降らせたといわれます。
天を指し、地を指すそのお姿は、この世に生きるあまねく命の尊さを示しています。
お釈迦さまの誕生日の４月８日には、
花祭り・灌仏会(かんぶつえ)等の呼び名でお釈迦様の誕生を祝うお祭りが行われます。

本作は、真言宗僧侶であり造形作家でもある天野こうゆうが
み教えへの敬意を大切にしながら、自身の解釈のもと制作した土人形です。

Tanjōbutsu (Birth Buddha)
The Tanjō-butsu (Birth Buddha) is a Buddhist statue depicting the figure of Shakyamuni at the moment of his birth.
It is widely beloved during the Flower Festival (Hana Matsuri) held in April. It is said that immediately after his birth, Shakyamuni took seven steps, pointed one hand toward the sky and the other toward the earth, and uttered his sacred words.
The sky and the earth rejoiced at this, and poured down a rain of sweet dew (amrita).This posture — one hand pointing to the sky, the other to the earth — symbolizes the preciousness of each and every life.
